Travel & Passports
Pet dogs and cats are increasingly travelling with their owners, either temporarily or permanently, to foreign countries. Pet passports were introduced as an alternative to quarantine for animals returning to the UK.
In order to be issued with a pet passport a dog or cat has to go through a number of stages.
First they have to be microchipped and given a rabies vaccination. These can be done on the same day.
Four weeks later they need to come back for a blood test. The blood is sent to a government approved laboratory. Provided that the results show that the vaccination has worked then we can issue your pet passport. This will allow your pet to leave the country more or less straight away, but they cannot return to the UK until six months from the date of the blood test.
Before coming back into the UK your pet will have to have a check up and treatment for ticks and fleas.
Whilst abroad they may be exposed to diseases that we do not have in the UK. We stock a number of preparations to help protect them against ticks fleas, and bites from mosquitos. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
